In 2018, Philip Hardy and Donovan Conran combined their musical talents in a duo known as Fine Lads. Both Philip and Donovan have musical roots from Newfoundland’s southwest coast with a lifelong exposure to traditional music. Through their years, they have explored many different genres of music but settling for the upbeat Newfoundland and Irish tunes to entertain the crowds.
Philip Hardy hails from Port aux Basques, a town on the southwest coast of Newfoundland. During an Elementary school concert where he sang Jackson with one of his classmates, his love of singing and entertaining began to grow. During his teenage years he moved to Stephenville where he met his future band mate. Over the years he dabbled with various instruments but his guitar remains his instrument of choice. Philip’s passion for entertaining can be quickly felt as he engages audiences of all ages to join with the duo in a hand clapping, foot tapping, and good ol’ Newfoundland time. Philip now resides in St. John’s where he is a regular performer in the local downtown scene.
Donovan Conran is from Port au Port located near Stephenville on Newfoundlands west coast. Hailing from a very musical family be began to sing and play at a very young age after his dad taught him his first few chords at the age of 7. Donovan started learning guitar and added other instruments over the years such as fiddle, mandolin, banjo and the list goes on. He has played in several bands and musical projects over the years on the west coast of NL, travelling to different parts of the island for festivals, shows, etc. While dabbling in numerous genres there was a special love for traditional music. This came full circle when he moved to St. John's in 2018 reconnecting with his good friend and high school music buddy Phil to form Fine Lads.
